For this month's One Drink Project I create cute little baby photo placecards. I love making my Thanksgiving table personal and fun, so I thought I'd do something different this year. For this project I quenched my thirst with Bare Hands Oak Stout and it was super tasty.Read More
I had to make a flower arrangement for my fall table so I thought I'd video tape for you all to see. It's fun and easy to put together a floral centerpiece. For this one I used marroon mums and alstroemeria, mauve stock, green hydrangea and white hypericum berry.Read More
No doubt you’ve seen photos of lavish, over the top porch designs. Not only do the designs appear complicated and hard to replicate, but they can also be terribly expensive. Well, I’m here to tell you a beautiful fall front porch doesn’t need to break the bank or take up a whole weekend.Read More
Even for folks who are not so craft-oriented recovering pillows is a basic skill level sewing project. All you need is a sewing machine, some fabric, pillow forms, and a little bit of patience (actually, patience is optional). I had some beautiful woven Ikat feather pillows on my home office loveseat. Unfortunately, because of the loose weave and high traffic area, the pillows had become frayed and torn. I let it go a little longer than I should have by carefully placing the pillows so the holes didn’t show. Finally, I had a day without much on the calendar, so I tackled the project.Read More

I meet with people to discuss design all the time. The most common concern I hear from people is that they don't know where to start. It may seem oversimplified but start with what you love. I understand that not everyone is passionate about decor but everyone is passionate about something. I can easily walk through an antique mall or a department store and pick out accents I like, but not everyone can. Even so, I bet you have a poster, a mug, a hobby you enjoy. Use those as inspiration.
Nothing in my house matches. Nothing looks like it came out of a catalog, but each element was something I was drawn to, and if you always pick what you love they will inevitably go together nicely.
A few years back my girlfriend was going to dump an old couch. She knew I was a fan of vintage finds so she asked if I might want it.
At first glance it wasn't much to look at. Flame retardant 70's material and played out cushions.
Even so, I decided the lines were nice and the structure was in good shape so I adopted it. Much to my husbands chagrin it sat in the basement for ages. It became the slumpy couch we only used when we were putting on shoes, or needed somewhere to stack old books. (Apparently, my dog liked to keep his bone here too.)Read More
There are many choices when it comes to buying paint and I've run through the list. For some time now I've been buying all my paint from Bloomington Paint and Wallpaper - our local Benjamin Moore dealer.
I always look forward to when suppliers release the color trends for the new year. This year Benjamin Moore does not disappoint. The 2017 Colors for BM are gorgeous!Read More
Choosing paint colors may be one of the hardest things to do in home design. That earthy clay pot color you chose at the paint shop could be utterly pepto pink when you slap it on the walls. There are many ways to approach this tricky issue but over the years I've found a few ways to simplify the process. The first decision you want to make is A - do you want your walls to be neutral so your accents can stand out (think art, fabrics, furniture) or B - do you want your room to be bold with color throughout.Read More
It’s easy to get obsessed with Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware catalogs, but the best way to decorate your home ISN’T to decorate it like anyone else’s.Read More
Even if you aren’t planning on selling your home, and especially if you are, curb appeal is always an important aspect of your home design. This is your homes first impression.Read More
Over the 20+ years I worked with events and florals I will tell you that I became quite particular about my holiday tree. Some years I was a purest, only white and gold. Other years I would add punches of magenta and chartreuse with large glittery ornaments. This year I decided to take another path.Read More
