Today has been named International Women's Day, and I'm all for it. In the days leading up to today, I've heard conversations of women who are taking the day to donate time to a women's shelter or help deliver meals to the homeless. Some women are taking time for themselves by cutting away from the daily grind to meditate and read.
I think it's important for us to remember to help others, let alone ourselves, but I wish it didn't take a holiday to do it.
Lately I've been treating myself to time alone every morning. I wake up an hour earlier (I know it sounds horrible) and after my regular morning routine of showering and dressing is out of the way I meditate, then I journal, then I read. I have done this nearly every morning since October and I can tell you it has made a world of difference!
That singular hour every day sets the stage for a better day. I'm not rushed, I'm not tired, I'm calm and fresh. I can't say many of my associates would ever describe me as "calm" OR "fresh", but it's the feeling I have when I start my day, and it is a world away from the rushed, crazed worn out feeling I used to start my day with.
I guess what I'm saying is, YES! Take your day! Use International Women's Day to do something great for other women in need and/or for yourself, but also take part of your time today to consider what else you can do for yourself on a daily basis to improve your life going forward. Make yourself a priority, you are the only one you have to live with for the rest of your life.
