It’s true, I love to throw a good party. This year I thought I’d do something a little different. Instead of the usual friends and family pitch in, I decided to invite my whole neighborhood. I enjoy a good deep spring cleaning and often I end up with a huge pile of donation items and old trash I need to get rid of. I had heard of the idea of sharing a dumpster before so I thought I’d expand that even more and get a dumpster for the neighborhood.
I sent out invites, ordered a dumpster, and hoped folks would show up. My initial plan was to rent a U HAUL truck and drive it off to ReStore and Goodwill to drop off donations, but ReStore came to my rescue. They said the would bring their box truck and take all the donations!
When the morning came, an amazing thing happened. People came! Neighbors I had never met before came over and introduced themselves to me. It was an absolute blast. We had beer and snacks and great conversation. People brought old construction trash for the dumpster, and tables, chairs, clothes, games and all sorts of other stuff for the ReStore.
It was such a great time, and believe it or not we filled the truck AND the 30 yard dumpster. It was such a success I think I’ll have to do it again next year.
